چکیده

1. Introduction Speech sounds convey not only linguistic or phonological information, but also nonlinguistic information, including the speakers' individualities [1]. It is known that the availability of the speech contents used for speaker identification differs depending on the types of sounds they contain, and it is reported that voiced sonorants, such as vowels and nasals, are most effective for speaker identification by both humans [2–4] and machines [5]. The speaker's individuality contained in speech sounds should have some acoustic correlations and their properties can be measured as acoustic parameters [6]. In this study, we conducted a human speaker identification test, and investigated the differences in the effectiveness of using various Japanese sounds in identifying the speakers. We also analysed the stimuli used in the experiment in order to explain these differences in terms of acoustical distances.

Effects of stimulus contents and speaker familiarity on perceptual speaker identification

1. Introduction In daily conversation, listeners use both phonological and speaker information of the utterance in order to achieve successful communication [1]. It is reported that the processing of the phonological content and that of the speaker identity occur separately, although they interact with each other [1,2]. One example of this interaction is that certain sounds are effective for pe...

Speaker Similarities in Human Perception and Their Spectral Properties

The acoustic properties of voiced sonorants are said to be speaker-dependent, and it is also reported that these sounds are effective for identifying the speakers. In our previous experiments, we found that the nasal sounds are highly effective for speaker identification by listening, and that the inter-speaker distances in the spectra were also greater in nasals than in oral sounds. This prese...

The Correspondences between the Perceptio Contained in Speech Sounds and Th

This study investigates the correspondences between the differences among the phones in human speaker identification and their acoustic properties. In the speaker identification test, the Japanese CV syllables excerpted from the carrier sentences were used as the stimuli. As pointed out in the previous studies, the stimuli containing the nasal sounds were significantly effective for the identif...

Speaker-dependent characteristics of the nasals.

Investigation on human speaker identification enables us to know the indexical cues to speakers, and it may consequently lead to the effective acoustical parameters that can be used for forensic speaker recognition. It is known that speaker individuality interacts with the phonological or linguistic information contained in speech signals. As proof, the accuracy of perceptual speaker identifica...

Vibrotactile Identification of Signal-Processed Sounds from Environmental Events Presented by a Portable Vibrator: A Laboratory Study

Objectives: To evaluate different signal-processing algorithms for tactile identification of environmental sounds in a monitoring aid for the deafblind. Two men and three women, sensorineurally deaf or profoundly hearing impaired with experience of vibratory experiments, age 22-36 years. Methods: A closed set of 45 representative environmental sounds were processed using two transposing (TRH...
